Essex Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
Achieves
A Deficiency-Free* Rating by the Department of Public Health
Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing is proud to announce that it has received a “deficiency-free” result on its annual Department of Public Health Certification Survey conducted in the Fall of 2011. Long-term Care facilities are surveyed every year by a multi-disciplinary team. Surveys are always unannounced. The rigorous survey, which is conducted over several days, cover almost 200 quality, safety and performance issues such as medication management, proper skin care, assessment of resident’s needs, respect for residents rights and dignity, food service, environment and administration, to name only a few.
The complete evaluation included a tour of the facility, review of residents’ clinical records, interviews with residents and family members about life and care, and also included a review of nurse to patient ratio requirements.
With increasingly stringent regulations, achieving the deficiency-free rating is exceedingly difficult. These surveys, and the subsequent ratings, are a useful tool for prospective and current residents, their families, and health care practitioners to make informed choices about the quality of a long-term care facility.

*In the skilled care nursing facility industry, a “deficiency-free” rating is comparable to straight A’s on a report card. During the last three years, the Department of Public Health found only 17 out of 431 nursing homes deficiency-free in Massachusetts.
Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing is proud to be one of those 17.
